New Feature For The Fall Sewing By The Sea Retreat

Water-Soluble Web Workshop

In response to your requests we will be trying something new at the retreat in March – an optional hands-on workshop. People at these retreats are working on many interesting and innovative techniques. Everyone in our group is talented and everyone is very generous about sharing and showing others what they are doing. However, a number of people have expressed an interest in doing something more, of having time for a more formal hands-on learning experience.

At the retreat in November we discussed how we might accomplish this. We realized that we have wide variety of talent in our group and that a number of people already teach classes - some of them on a national/international level. While you can sign up for a class with them it could be expensive since in addition to the tuition and supplies it would probably require travel. Plus there are some very talented people who do not currently teach so you would have no other opportunity to study with them at this time. We thought that since we are all together at the beach the people who are interested might enjoy a class without the additional time and expense to travel to another venue. Also, we recognized that the teacher should be compensated since she would be giving up some of her precious retreat time as well as devoting significant time to developing the workshop and preparing samples. We realize that any class, no matter how interesting, would not appeal to every one.

So, we decided to try an optional, hand-on workshop, with its own tuition and supply fees. Here are the basic guidelines:
• The teacher will provide (at a reasonable cost) as many supplies and special tools as are appropriate.

• The workshop will be held either in a private area of the ballroom or another location.

• "Visitors” who are not signed up will not be permitted.

• Participation in the workshop is totally optional; you decide whether or not you want to take the workshop.

•Pre-registration is required.

•The workshop tuition and supply fee are in addition to the regular retreat registration fee ($80).Cancellations are refundable until 4 weeks before. You may send someone in your place. If you must cancel after that and don’t have a replacement the teacher will send you your supply kit (if there is one) and any class handouts.

We will try the optional workshop concept with two different workshops, one in March and one in November 2006. We will evaluate the response and decide whether to continue this and/or what changes we should make. As always, we welcome your input, feedback, and ideas. This is YOUR retreat and we want to do whatever works for you all.

Our first offering will be Needle Felted Beads with Joyce Carrier. The details are below. Joyce has attended Sewing By The Sea for several years. If you attended in November 2005 you saw some of the needle felted figures she was making.

We will confirm workshop registration by e-mail.
We will send the usual “Last Minute Notes” e-mail to you about a month before the retreat.
